Lots of the reflections on 2009 seem to reiterate what we were all feeling back at the end of 2008 - a lot of uncertainty and a hope that maybe the next 12 months would be better. 2009 was certainly a tough year and reminded us that we shouldn't rest on our laurels. But what of 2010? I've just got back from an affluent part of the USA where it feels they were 6-12 months ahead of us in recession and they are still not out of the woods yet. Much of that is down to a slow start to construction which is still not really taking off and gardens are lagging behind still, indeed there is evidence that builders are underpricing and steeling existing projects off landscapers over there. So maybe we should be grateful for the announcements of builders such as Barratt that they are increasing home starts and the increase in things such as brick production as an indication that we are starting to see light at the tunnel and we can plan for a healthier 2011.
