I am the Head Groundsman at Ipswich Town Football Club. I have been in Sports turf since leaving school at the age of 16 and have enjoyed a great career to date. I have been married to Carol for 25 years and have three sons Rory 21 and twins Callum and Blair 18.
I began as an apprentice green keeper on St. Andrews Links working first on the famous Old Course before becoming Course foreman on the New course. After St. Andrews I moved to Bathgate Golf Club in West Lothian as Head Green keeper where I stayed for several years before joining a contracting company called Sports Turf Services near Edinburgh. It was there that I had the first chance to work on professional football pitches. Although I had always wanted to be a green keeper and despite having worked an Open championship and a Colgate PGA my passion in life has always been football. To have the chance to manage sports turf in football was like living a dream every day. After Sports turf Services I moved to Glasgow Rangers then onto my present position at Ipswich Town.
I am also a Non Executive Director of a company called Support in Sport. The company work in both natural and synthetic pitches in the UK and Europe.
